Online Blackjack

Most people consider all gambling to be based simply on luck. While there certainly are games that require more luck than skill, some require a great deal of skill, and almost no luck, to be successful. Blackjack is one of them. If you have ever seen a blackjack table in action, the general feeling is that all these players are playing each other. In reality, however, they’re not. In blackjack, you only play against the dealer regardless of how many players are participating. Another misconception is that you need 21 to win (many people refer to blackjack as “21”). What this really means is 21 is the highest you are allowed to get, but you can win with any lower amount as long as you still beat the dealer or if the dealer goes over.

Just because you are playing to beat the dealer, this does not mean that the other players do not affect the game as a whole. All the players sitting to your right will get to choose how many cards they want before you. This will have an affect on the cards left in the deck available to you, as well as the dealer. Depending on the cards dealt, this will either improve your chances of getting the cards you need or lessen them.

Blackjack can be played two different ways with two different advantages. You can play multi-deck or single deck. Most beginners choose to play multi-deck, using 6-8 different decks of cards and dealing all the cards face up. Playing multi-deck can be helpful in learning different strategies and techniques that will help you when you advance to single deck. Remember, though, playing multi-deck gives the house a far greater advantage. The single deck version of the game means that you play with one full deck and, with the exception of the dealer, all players cards are dealt face down. This does help to even the playing field a bit.

When you play blackjack, the suit on the cards doesn’t mean anything. Any cards numbered one through nine are all taken at their stated value while all tens, jacks, queens, and kings are worth ten. An ace is worth either one or eleven, whichever helps you out more. The value of your hand is the sum of all cards dealt to you.

The object of blackjack is to get a score higher than the dealer without going over twenty-one. Anything higher than a twenty-one, and you are “bust”, simply meaning you lost. In case of a tie, the dealer declares the game over with no winner and you get to keep the money you bet.

While there are still people who believe that playing blackjack and winning is based on the luck of the draw, there are other more experienced gamblers that insist it is a game of strategy and you can increase your chances of winning if you know what to look for. So, if blackjack is the game for you, do your homework. Just type in blackjack into your search engine and learn from the experts.
