Roulette: The
Rules
Although such games as poker and blackjack are played strictly against the dealer, roulette is considered to be a more social
game where the players compete against each other instead of the dealer. The rules of roulette are such that, again
unlike poker and blackjack, the chips have no distinguishing markings to show their face value other than color and the
dealer determines that value. The players place bets by using different color chips. The dealer then places a final chip,
called the lammer, on the top of the stack indicating the total value of the entire stack. For example, if the stack
holds ten red chips and the dealer places a red chip with the face value of $100 on it, each chip in the stack is worth
$10.00.
[The next applies to American Roulette or European Roulette]
There are two main types of bets in roulette, the inside bet and the outside bet. Although placing a bet in roulette
can seem confusing at first, once you understand the difference between the two types of bets, it makes sense. An inside bet
is a bet placed on the inside part of the main grid of the roulette table where the different numbers are found. An outside
bet is placed on the main grid of the roulette table where the outside row of numbers is found. When you are ready to place a bet, you simply take
the amount of chips you want to bet and place them on the grid where you want them. You can bet on the number, either
even or odd, or you can bet on a color, either red or black. In an online roulette game, the same rules of roulette apply.
You simply click on the spot you want to bet on and indicate the dollar amount of your bet. When you actually see the table,
you will realize that your betting options are numerous.
Betting continues until the dealer calls out “no more
bets” right before the ball spinning on the roulette wheel stops. When the ball has stopped, the dealer will determine
who has won and pay them accordingly. Of course, the dealer will also take the chips from the players who have lost.
Of course, like in most games, the house has the advantage. The roulette wheel has 38 spaces but, if you have only played one number,
your odds of winning are actually 35 to 1. This is done so to ensure the house makes a profit on most plays. It is a
business after all. Anyone playing roulette knows the rules of roulette are such that the house has the advantage and
their chances of winning are minimal, but because of the ease of the game and the chance to win is still there, regardless
of how small, roulette is one of the more popular games played. lthough there will always be the gamblers that swear there
is skill involved, roulette truly is a game of chance. This has an appeal all its own as it squarely evens the playing
field between the players, regardless of the players’ gambling experience.
